As a teenager his love of music led him to study guitar with a focus on flamenco. Because of a serious illness which traditional medicine could not cure\, José became interested in and was healed by Christian Science. In 1986 he moved to the United States to devote his life to healing others as a Christian Science Practitioner. In 2009 he became a Christian Science Teacher. He and his wife divide their time between Spain and the United States. \n

She graduated from Connecticut College for Women with a degree in music\, where she helped to start a Christian Science college organization. She assisted her husband\, Joseph Heard\, CSB\, in his work as a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science\, serving as his secretary and administrative assistant for 28 years.  Joyce also accompanied her husband when he was a lecturer for ten of those years\, visiting 46 states and 35 countries.  During this time she continued her active practice.\n     She has served in a number of capacities in branch church work\, including First and Second Reader\, Board member\, Sunday School Superintendent\, and has especially loved being a Sunday School teacher for many years.
